The Kimono is a cursory nod to the traditional Japanese kimono esthetic. The back is shape fitted yet the front can hang loose (a column of elegance), tied (a bow of delight) or wrapped around to the back (sleek and active).
The most versatile structure in the Yáahl, Gúud, Tsai repertoire, the G̱úud Eagle Kimono is an easy adornment to dramatize a simple dress, give class to jeans or cover arms in the sun. Washable, dryable, packable, uncreasable. Take it with you wherever you go.

The G̱úud Gúujaawée Eagle Drum and ovoid shape image are screened onto a paper canvas. The kimono is laid flat on the G̱úud Gúujaawée image and folded. The excess image is wrapped around the back of the kimono to the front, pinned and heatset. Once unwrapped, the ovoid shape is pinned to the back of the kimono over a portion of the G̱úud image. Excess of this image is also wrapped around to the front of the structure. A large eagle eye (a screen made from a photograph of a carved Totem G̱úud eye similar to the one pictured below) is screened onto paper and placed on the top of the folded kimono. The ‘sandwich’ is heatset and when unfolded and donned, you become the structure for this totem.
”Formline is a language still used by many artists, but I prefer to talk about it as a skeleton. There are two main alphabets, the ovoid shape and the U-shape, with a standard that has been developing for centuries before contact. When I am creating, I actually design the skeleton before I fill the space. The ovoid and U-shape echo throughout the skeleton.” Robert Davidson, Tsahl Eagle Clan“Raven Travelling: Two Centuries of Haida Art” VAG
